A Joint Session of the Eighth Grade Student Government Representatives with the Eighth Grade Student Happiness Committee Members in Service of Planning an Undetermined Event for the Eighth Grade Class After What Has Been A Particularly Challenging Year
5F 2M - One Act Zoom Play - 30-40 min
The recently formed Eighth Grade Student Happiness Committee joins the Eighth Grade Student Government Representatives to plan a virtual event for their class after the middle school dance is canceled due to the coronavirus crisis.
CHARACTERS
ZACK: 8th Grade Class President, he/him
Believes school spirit is the most important thing in the entire world. A little bit of a mess, but cares a lot, and really is invested in actually having something nice for the class after such a weird year. Really really needs everyone to like him.
ELIZA: 8th Grade Class Vice President, she/her
Ambitious. By far the most talented student in her class. Going far and she knows it. Frustrated that no one else is at her level. Knows if she expresses that frustration it will be mean. Keeps everyone on track. Can’t filter her annoyance sometimes.
BRAD: 8th Grade Class Treasurer, he/him
Ran unopposed for this position. Wanted to be in Student Government but didn’t want to actually have to do a lot of work. Unclear why they are here or what they are getting out of this. Seems like maybe something their mom encouraged them to do?
SKYLAR: 8th Grade Class Secretary, she/her
Really really trying to keep a positive attitude about this position she ran for last year. Would tell you that she loves being able to take on this leadership position even though she is so so tired of it. Just really wants to be able to take notes in peace
EMMIE: 8th Grade Class Student Happiness Committee Member: The Joy Tsar, she/her
Takes this position wayyyyyyyy too seriously. Really really proud of herself for being chosen. It’s annoying how proud of herself she is. Thinks she is doing the most charitable act anyone can do. Thinks the 8th grade class has had it the hardest of everyone.
COLETTE: 8th Grade Class Student Happiness Committee Member: The Laugh Leader, she/her
Thinks she is the funniest person in the entire world. Has used this role as an opportunity to film a lot of sketches (unclear if they have actually been filmed safely, does not seem to be taking Covid very seriously) and force the school to watch them.
LUCY: 8th Grade Class Student Happiness Committee Member: The Minister of Friendship, she/her
More than a little awkward. Very nervous. It is clear that the teacher who appointed her to this role thought it would be a good opportunity to “break out of her shell.” Would not have wanted to say yes but felt too guilty to say no.
